Stuck at 5 .....

The Dallas Cowboys, despite being handed their sixth Lombardy Trophy back in August by many NFL experts, aren't even going to the playoffs. Sure, injuries hurt them in a few spots. Tack on two more wins from when Romo and Barber were out, and they're playing in January, but still, this team has problems ....

I've been listening to KTCK-AM all day on-line. It's a WFAN-type sports talk station out of Dallas/Fort Worth. There is much, much cynicism in Big-D. Not venom, like you'd get in New York, but there is some real outrage. The guys that host the shows are calling the team the biggest disappointment in the team's nearly 50-year history. The media and the fans calling in want changes, but Jerry is saying that won't be happening. I listened to Wade Phillips' press conference live from Dallas at 2 p.m. and it made me sick. The guy may be a nice dude and know some football, but there is something big missing. No fire. And Romo's non-nonchalant post-game comments are getting him killed down there, even by the guys who always stand by him. And rightly so. No fire.

Also, could you imagine Troy being bullied around in the press or on the team by anyone the way T.O. has tried to undermine Romo this year and not have that guy be challenged back by Troy? If Troy himself didn't get in the guy's face and tell him to shut up and f-off, at least 30 other guys would have. No leadership.

I got this NEW version of the "History of The Dallas Cowboys" DVD for Christmas. There is a little bonus feature called "The Triplets." It's fantastic. I already watched it twice. In addition to all of the dominance, they talk at length about the loss in '94. They show Emmit sitting on the bench after the game, covered with mud, in a daze and in total dejection. These are guys who already had two rings and they all look devastated. Romo was almost smug after the game yesterday. Now there are stories of a party-like atmosphere on the plane ride home last night. Remember the Jimmy/Redskins loss plane ride story from '92? And that wasn't even a playoff game. But the coach was pi-ssed. The team was down. And that's how it's supposed to be. Total commitment.

I'm not stuck in the past. The glory days are 12-15 years ago. But these losers could learn a lot from watching some of those old clips and seeing a team that played as a team. I don't think Aikman, Irvin and Emmitt hung out together much and went to dinner and movies together, but they LOVED playing football together and they HATED to lose. HATED IT.

The Jets weren't even supposed to be that good this year. They finished 9-7 and didn't make the playoffs. This morning, they fired their coach. The Cowboys were supposed to go to the Super Bowl. They finished 9-7 and didn't make the playoffs and their owner is saying everything is fine. I love Jerry, but he's probably trying to get HBO back again for training camp, when he should be on the phone talking to Cowher or Schottenhiemer or anybody that can whip these losers into shape.

I am disgusted not only with these overrated posers, but also with the lack of fire coming from Valley Ranch today. This staff and this team will never win a Super Bowl.

Never.

al,

there is nothing i could add to your comments. however the opening of the new stadium
may be playing a large role in the lack of changes. the new buliding is the priority and jerry may not have time for a search. i do have to hand it to alan to subject himself to the radio stuff. i've been listening to 107 since monday a.m.
