Roger Staubach weighs in on Cowboys

Several all-time Cowboy greats, including Roger Staubach, have weighed in on the current state of the team. As you might expect, they are not pleased. Tony Dorsett is particularily blunt. Here are the stories from the Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram:

The Cowboys did not become the most popular team in the NFL and "Anerica's Team" by being a three-ring circus. They did that by winning a lot of football games and doing it with toughness and class. Tom Landry was not a flashy guy. Either was Staubach. Yes, they had the coolest uniforms in sports, a palace for a stadium and the cheerleaders, but the core of their popularity was guys like Staubach. Things had changed in the NFL by the '90s, but guys like Troy, Emmitt, Moose and Novachek were old-school type guys that helped keep the shine of the star. There are still a few left - Barber, Whitten, Ware - but just because you are "America's Team" doesn't mean it will always stay that way. It can be destroyed. Just look at the Raiders. Jerry needs to dump the idiots and the criminals, dump the stupid TV shows, get a hard-ass coach and clean up this mess. It's not too late.
